The Beatitudes: Matthew 5:7 "Blessed are the compassionate, for they shall receive compassion.

Those who show mercy will receive mercy.
Mother Teresa in Calcutta

MER'CIFUL, a. [from mercy.] Having or exercising mercy; compassionate; tender; disposed to pity offenders and to forgive their offenses; unwilling to punish for injuries; applied appropriately to the Supreme being.

The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, the Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering and abundant in goodness and truth. Exo 34.

1. Compassionate; tender; unwilling to give pain; not cruel. A merciful man will be merciful to his beast. Webster’s Dictionary

A.Clark says “The merciful - The word mercy, among the Jews, signified two things: the pardon of injuries, and almsgiving. Our Lord undoubtedly takes it in its fullest latitude here. To know the nature of mercy, we have only to consult the grammatical meaning of the Latin word misericordia, from which ours is derived. It is composed of two words: miserans, pitying, and cor, the heart; or miseria cordis, pain of heart. Mercy supposes two things:
1. A distressed object: and,
2. A disposition of the heart, through which it is affected at the sight of such an object.
This virtue, therefore, is no other than a lively emotion of the heart, which is excited by the discovery of any creature’s misery; and such an emotion as manifests itself outwardly, by effects suited to its nature.”

Jesus shows Misericordia to the hurting.
Heb 2:17  Therefore in all things it behoved him to be made like His brothers, that He, Jesus, might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of His people.
Heb 2:18  For in that He Himself has suffered, having been tempted, He is able to rescue those who are being tempted.

Notes:That he might be a merciful and faithful high priest - Ἱνα ελεημων γενηται· That he might be merciful - that he might be affected with a feeling of our infirmities, that, partaking of our nature with all its innocent infirmities and afflictions, he might know how to be compassionate to poor, afflicted, suffering man.

Mar 1:40 And a leper came to Him, begging Him and kneeling down to Him, and saying to Him, If You will, You can make me clean. Mar 1:41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put out His hand and touched him, and said to him, I will; be clean! Mar 1:42 And He having spoken, the leprosy instantly departed from him and he was cleansed. Mar 1:43 And He strictly charged him and immediately sent him away, Mar 1:44 and He said to him, See that you say nothing to anyone. But go and show yourself to the priest, and offer those things which Moses commanded for your cleansing, for a testimony to them. Mar 1:45 But going out, he began to proclaim it very much, and to spread about the matter, so that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was outside in deserted places. And they came to Him from every quarter.
