Matthew 5 :27-32 Jesus Higher Application of the Law to Adultery and Divorce.

Mat 5:27  "You have heard that it was said, 'THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.'
Mat 5:28  But I tell you that whoever looks at a woman and cherishes lustful thoughts has already in his heart become guilty with regard to her.
Mat 5:29  If therefore your eye, even the right eye, is a snare to you, tear it out and away with it; it is better for you that one member should be destroyed rather than that your whole body should be thrown into Gehenna.
Mat 5:30  And if your right hand is a snare to you, cut it off and away with it; it is better for you that one member should be destroyed rather than that your whole body should go into Gehenna.
Mat 5:31  "It was also said, 'IF ANY MAN PUTS AWAY HIS WIFE, LET HIM GIVE HER A WRITTEN NOTICE OF DIVORCE.'
Mat 5:32  But I tell you that every man who puts away his wife except on the ground of unfaithfulness causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries her when so divorced commits adultery.

Adultery

Mat 5:27  "You have heard that it was said, 'THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.'
[In the Ten Commandments Exodus 20:14]
ADUL'TERY, n. [L. adulterium. See Adulterate.]
1. Violation of the marriage bed; a crime, or a civil injury, which introduces, or may introduce, into a family, a spurious offspring.

[By the laws of Connecticut, the sexual intercourse of any man, with a married woman, is the crime of adultery in both: such intercourse of a married man, with an unmarried woman, is fornication in both, and adultery of the man, within the meaning of the law respecting divorce; but not a felonious adultery in either, or the crime of adultery at common law, or by statute. This latter offense is, in England, proceeded with only in the ecclesiastical courts.] Webster’s Dictionary

adultery = μοιχεύω  moicheuō Thayer Definition:
1) to commit adultery 1a) to be an adulterer 1b) to commit adultery with, have unlawful intercourse with another’s wife 1c) of the wife: to suffer adultery, be debauched 1d) A Hebrew idiom, the word is used of those who at a woman’s solicitation are drawn away to idolatry, i.e. to the eating of things sacrificed to idols
Part of Speech: verb
Ye have heard that it was said — The words “by,” or “to them of old time,” in this verse are insufficiently supported, and probably were not in the original text.
Thou shall not commit adultery — Interpreting this seventh, as they did the sixth commandment, the traditional perverters of the law restricted the breach of it to acts of criminal intercourse between, or with, married persons exclusively. Our Lord now dissipates such delusions.

Mat 5:28  But I tell you that whoever looks at a woman and cherishes lustful thoughts has already in his heart become guilty with regard to her.
Notes:
whoever looks at a woman and cherishes lustful thoughts :
The Jewish rabbins held that a man was guiltless who did not commit the act. Christ, as he always did, lays the laws upon the heart. If it is impure, full of unholy desires, one is guilty. It is our duty to keep the heart pure. PNT

Notice: First is the Look.
The eye is the light of the soul.Mat_6:22  "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.
Mat_6:23  But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be dark. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

The Devil uses the eye to tempt mankind.

Note Eve in the Garden of Eden that she saw the fruit that it was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
David saw Bathsheba Bathing. This led to adultery and murder.

GUARD THE EYEGATE

Mat_18:9  And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, than having two eyes, to be thrown into the fiery hell.

Watch Your eyes what they see.
whoever looks at a woman and cherishes lustful thoughts. The problem is the cherishing of lustful thoughts because soon these will lead to wicked actions. Wandering eyes are the eventual cause of impure thoughts and then sexual sins.
Mat_15:19  For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
Mar_7:21  For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
For men it is very difficult to have pure eyes, holy eyes. It is the heart that must be sanctified and set apart for God and His purposes.
MEN LEARN TO TURN YOUR EYES AWAY.
Job that godly man of ancient times said,
Job 31:1  "I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I gaze at a virgin?
Job 31:2  What would be my portion from God above and my heritage from the Almighty on high?
Job 31:3  Is not calamity for the unrighteous, and disaster for the workers of iniquity?
Job 31:4  Does not He see my ways and number all my steps?

Women and girls be modest. Do not expose your flesh so as to arouse men sexually. Be discreet. Modesty is wearing what is becoming and appropriate to the occasion. So do not wear scanty pjs to the Shopping centre. PJS are for the bedroom.
