Matthew 21 : 1 - 11 Jesus Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem.

King Jesus needs a donkey and its foal.
Mat 21:1  When they were come near Jerusalem and had arrived at Bethphage and the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of the disciples on in front,
Mat 21:2  saying to them, "Go to the village you see facing you, and as you enter it you will find a she-ass tied up and a foal with her. Untie her and bring them to me.
Mat 21:3  And if any one says anything to you, say, 'The Master needs them,' and he will at once send them."
Mat 21:4  This took place in order that the Prophet's prediction might be fulfilled:
Mat 21:5  "TELL THE DAUGHTER OF ZION, 'SEE, THY KING IS COMING TO THEE, GENTLE, AND YET MOUNTED ON AN ASS, EVEN ON A COLT THE FOAL OF A BEAST OF BURDEN.'"
Mat 21:6  So the disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them:
Mat 21:7  they brought the she-ass and the foal, and threw their outer garments on them. So He sat on them;
Mat 21:8  and most of the crowd kept spreading their garments along the road, while others cut branches from the trees and carpeted the road with them,
Mat 21:9  and the multitudes--some of the people preceding Him and some following--sang aloud, "GOD SAVE THE SON OF DAVID! BLESSINGS ON HIM WHO COMES IN THE LORD'S NAME! GOD IN THE HIGHEST HEAVENS SAVE HIM!"
Mat 21:10  When He thus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was thrown into commotion, every one inquiring, "Who is this?"
Mat 21:11  "This is Jesus, the Prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee," replied the crowds.

Introduction.

Jesus had been teaching in the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. He had given sight to two blind men as He left Jericho in the Jordan valley. Now in this story he has climbed up to Jerusalem something like 3,000 feet [1,000 metres] to the Mount  of Olives on the East side of the Holy City.

Mat 21:1  When they were come near Jerusalem and had arrived at Bethphage and the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of the disciples on in front,
Notes
When they were come near Jerusalem and had arrived at Bethphage and the Mount of Olives, Bethphage was a village on the Western slopes of the Mount of olives which overlooks Jerusalem. Bethpage from Beth [Beet] House of or place of Phage little green figs

Jesus passed through Jericho, where he bestowed sight on Bartimæus and salvation on Zaccheus, came up the mountain pass from Jericho to Jerusalem, stopping over the Sabbath in the congenial home of Martha, Mary and Lazarus, in Bethany, and so on Sunday morning made his entry into Jerusalem. Compare Mar_11:1-11; Luke 19:29-44, and Joh_12:12-19.PNT.

Mat 21:2  saying to them, "Go to the village you see facing you, and as you enter it you will find a she-ass tied up and a foal with her. Untie her and bring them to me.
Notes
She-ass 860. athon -- a female donkey ... she ass. Probably from the same as 'eythan (in the sense of patience); a female donkey (from its docility) -- (she) ass. see HEBREW 'eythan. 859, 860.
Into the village over against you. Bethphage is in view, over against them, perhaps separated from them by a valley.

Ye shall find an ass tied. In the East the ass is in high esteem. Every Jew expected, from the words of one of the prophets (Zec_9:9), that the Messiah would enter Jerusalem riding on an ass.

Mat 21:3  And if any one says anything to you, say, '[The Lord], The Master needs them,' and he will at once send them."
Notes
The Lord (the proprietor of all things) hath need of them - Jesus is continually humbling himself, to show us how odious pride is in the sight of God: but in his humility he is ever giving proofs of his almighty power, that the belief of his divinity may be established.A.C.

Tell to the daughter of Sion - The quotation is taken from Zec_9:9, but not in the precise words of the prophet.
This entry into Jerusalem has been termed the triumph of Christ. It was indeed the triumph of humility over pride and worldly grandeur; of poverty over affluence; and of meekness and gentleness over rage and malice.
He is coming now meek, full of kindness and compassion to those who were plotting his destruction! He comes to deliver up himself into their hands; their king comes to be murdered by his subjects, and to make his death a ransom price for their souls! A.C.
Just imagine Jesus riding a foal for the first time. There seems to be no problem with rebellion or bucking. The animal is tame in the hands of our Saviour.

Mat 21:6  So the disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them:
Mat 21:7  they brought the she-ass and the foal, and threw their outer garments on them. So He sat on them;
Notes
There was a word of knowledge. Right there without any prior arrangement of the circumstances He knows that the donkey and its foal would be there tied up and ready. Wow what a Miraculous Saviour. This Prophecy of hundreds of years before had to be fulfilled that very Sunday.
Mat 21:8  and most of the crowd kept spreading their garments along the road, while others cut branches from the trees and carpeted the road with them,
Notes
Others showed the same respect by throwing their garments before him; others by cutting down branches of trees and casting them in the way. This was the way in which conquerors and princes were often honored. To cast flowers, or garlands, or evergreens before a warrior returning from victory, or a king entering into his kingdom, was a common way of testifying joyful and triumphant feeling. Thus Josephus says that Alexander and Agrippa were received at Jerusalem. Barnes Notes

Notes
They sang aloud, "GOD SAVE THE SON OF DAVID! BLESSINGS ON HIM WHO COMES IN THE LORD'S NAME! GOD IN THE HIGHEST HEAVENS SAVE HIM!"

God save; Hosanna G5614 ὡσαννά hōsanna Thayer Definition:
1) hosanna 2) be propitious

Wikipedia : Hosanna (/hoʊˈzænə/) is a liturgical word in Judaism and Christianity. In Judaism, it is always used in its original Hebrew form, Hoshana.
The word hosanna (Latin osanna, Greek ὡσαννά, hōsanná) is from Hebrew הושיעה־נא, הושיעה נא hôshia-nā’ which is short for hôšî‘â-nā’ from Aramaic הושע נא meaning "save, rescue, savior".[1]
In the Hebrew Bible it is used only in verses such as "help" or "save, I pray" (Psalms 118:25).
Son of David - The Messiah.
Blessed be he ... - That is, blessed be the “Messiah This passage is taken from Psa_118:25-26. To come “in the name of the Lord” here means to come “by the authority” of the Lord, or to come “commissioned” by him to reveal his will. The Jews had commonly applied this to the Messiah.

Hosanna in the highest - This may mean either “Hosanna in the highest, loftiest strains,” or it may be for a prayer to God “Save now, O thou that dwellest in the highest heaven, or among the highest angels.” Perhaps the whole song of hosanna may be a prayer to the Supreme God, as well as a note of triumphant acclamation: “Save now, O thou supremely great and glorious God; save by the Messiah that comes in thy name.”Barnes

Mat 21:10  When He thus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was thrown into commotion, every one inquiring, "Who is this?"
Notes
Jerusalem was in an uproar. This was something that had hapened over and again so they were all asking,
every one inquiring, "Who is this?"
There was great excitement. The sight of such a multitude, the shouts of the people, and the triumphant procession through the city, excited much attention and inquiry.

Mat 21:11  "This is Jesus, the Prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee," replied the crowds.
