Introduction

This story is also found in Mark and Luke. Matthew’s is the shortest and he seems toleave out some important points to the story. He does not mention the man was carried to Jesus by his four friends and let down in front of Jesus through the roof because the crowd was so huge they could not find a way into the house.
Jesus does say to the Man, “Be healed.” or “Rise up young man” But  "Take courage, my child; your sins are pardoned."
The teachers of the Law,the Scribes, were indignant saying that Jesus was Blasepheming.
Wow, Jesus proved them wrong in a dramatic way.

Mat 9:1  Accordingly He went on board, and crossing over came to His own town.
Capernaum on the Northern Shore of the Sea of Galilee

Capernaum church built over what was supposed to be Peter's House

Capernaum (/kəˈpɜrniəm/ kə-pur-nee-əm; Hebrew: כְּפַר נַחוּם, Kfar Nahum, "Nahum's village") was a fishing village in the time of the Hasmoneans, located on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee.[1] It had a population of about 1,500.[2] Archaeological excavations have revealed two ancient synagogues built one over the other. A church near Capernaum is said to be the home of Saint Peter.Wikipedia.com

Mat 9:2  Here they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing their faith Jesus said to the paralytic, "Take courage, my child; your sins are pardoned."

Notes
Here they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed.
These four friends did a most important thing. They carried their sick friend to Jesus.
Most people who come to Christ do so because a friend brings them. This man had four faithful friends. This is a challenge to us to bring people to Jesus who are in need.

Seeing their faith Jesus said to the paralytic, "Take courage, my child; your sins are pardoned."

Notes:
Seeing their faith Jesus said to the paralytic, "Take courage, my child; your sins are pardoned."
Notice it was not the man’s faith but the faith of the four young men that Jesus saw. Faith in Christ is always the key ingredient in an amazing miracle.
Jesus said to the paralytic, "Take courage, my child; your sins are pardoned."
The Pardon of sin and the healing of the body go hand in hand for Jesus.
We often try to separate the healing ministry and the Salvation of a soul but Jesus treats them as one. Jesus never sent a person who had faith in Him away with his sin or his sickness.

Mat 9:3  "Such language is impious," said some of the Scribes among themselves. WNT
Notes
"Such language is impious," said some of the Scribes…..
Mat 9:3  And lo, some of the scribes said within themselves, This one blasphemes. MKJV
For these scribes Jesus was blaspheming because only God can forgive sin, thus Jesus was making Himself equal with God.

Mat 9:4  Knowing their thoughts Jesus said, "Why are you cherishing evil thoughts in your hearts?
Mat 9:5  Why, which is easier? --to say, 'Your sins are pardoned,' or to say 'Rise up and walk'?
Notes
Here Jesus uses a Holy Spirit Gift of a Word of knowledge.
Jesus knew their thoughts.  But you say no one knows the thoughts of another man. True. But Jesus does. With the Gifts of the Holy Spirit God can reveal what is going on inside another person. Everything is open and laid bare before Him, the Lord, with whom we must gove account.
Mat 9:6  But, to prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to pardon sins" --He then says to the paralytic, "Rise, and take up your bed and go home."

Notes
The Young Paralytic is healed
….to prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to pardon sins"
Jesus is the Sin-Bearer. He alone can forgive your sin. No amount of sacrificing chickens or sheeep or Goats can avail anything. Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the word.
But that ye may know, etc. - External miracles are the proofs of internal ones. Three miracles are wrought in this case. (I mean, by miracle, something produced or known that no power is capable of but that which is omnipotent, and no knowledge adequate to but that which is omniscient). The miracles are these:
1st. The remission of the poor man’s sins.
2d. The discernment of the secret thoughts of the scribes.
3d. The restoring of the paralytic, in an instant, to perfect soundness.
Thus one miracle becomes the proof and establishment of another. Never was a clearer proof of omnipotent energy and mercy brought under the senses of man. Here is an absolutely perfect miracle wrought; and here are absolute incontestable proofs that the miracle was wrought; and the conclusion is the fullest demonstration of the Divinity of the ever-blessed Jesus.
Arise, take up thy bed - Being enabled to obey this command was the public proof that the man was made whole. Such a circumstance should not pass without improvement. A man gives proof of his conversion from sin to God who imitates this paralytic person. A.Clark
Mat 9:7  And he got up, and went off home.

Mat 9:8  And the crowds were awe-struck when they saw it, and ascribed the glory to God who had entrusted such power to a man.

And the crowds were awe-struck when they saw it,
they marvelled, and glorified God: they were struck with amazement and astonishment at the sight, it being what was strange and unusual; the like to which they had never seen before, nor heard of: and concluding it to be more than human; they ascribed it to God; they praised, and adored the divine goodness,

which had given such power unto men; of working miracles, healing diseases, and delivering miserable mortals from such maladies, as were otherwise incurable; still looking upon Christ as a mere man, by whom God did these things; not knowing yet the mystery of the incarnation, God manifest in the flesh.John Gill
